Fitworkz Instructional Series: Plié Squat

Form Cues: Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart with toes pointing outwards at about 45'. Bend knees, drop butt until butt and thighs are parallel to the floor. On the way up bring hips forward.

Posture Cues: Keep weight on heels, keep lower back straight and maintain a tight core. Don't lean forward, drop down with the weight.

Breathing Cues: Inhale on the way down, exhale on the raising phase of the squat.

Modifications: Regular squats or add bosu for difficulty/ease

Form Cues: Begin standing against a wall, drop down into a partial squat, stopping at a 90' bend. Place weight on legs, reach arms out in front of you or place arms out in T position.

Posture Cues: Keep lower back straight, core stable. Make sure feet are facing forward (slight outward position is okay) Keep arms straight.

Breathing: Rhythmic Breathing

Modifications: Remove weight, change arm position

Fitworkz Instructional Series: TRX Pike

Form Cues: Using TRX bands, place your feet in the TRX handles. Place hands underneath the shoulders. Set up in a push-up position. Bring your hips up into the air, keeping your knees straight, causing your feet to be brought in to your body towards your arms. Slowly bring your hips back down to the starting position. Repeat.

Posture Cues: Keep lower back, arms and legs straight, then fold in half!

Breathing Cues: Exhale while folding in half, inhale while returning to the starting position.

Modifications: Perform on flat ground or use floor sliders.

Form Cues: With arms in front of you, squat up and down at a fast pace. Remember to go all the way down and all the way up.

Posture Cues: Push hips back, get glutes as low to the ground as possible. Always keep back straight and a tight core during all parts of the motion, lower the body with the knees!

Breathing Cues: Inhale on the lowering phase, exhale on the upward phase of the squat.

Modifications: TRX squat, bodyweight squat, single leg squat, bosu squat, goblet squat Misc: 90 degrees or bust!!! Don't bend at the midline, drop those knees low!!!

Form Cues: Starting with your butt on the ground, reach behind and grab handles with a neutral grip. Slowly extend your arms and propel yourself upward until your arms are straight.

Posture Cues: Keep your feet on the ground, knees slightly bent, lower back and core nice and straight.

Breathing Cues: Inhale on way down, exhale on way up

Modifications: Dips can be performed using a box of varying height, or can be performed with an actual "dip" bar.

Misc: "keep your elbows as still as possible, drive through the hinge and straighten your arms"

Simple Life, A Minimalist Approach to Training and Exercise

Most people don’t have much time to do anything. No thanks to technology, which is supposed to make life easier. Instead it allows more stuff to be piled on to an already overflowing plate. As the owner FitWorkz of a 24 hour commercial gym and hybrid training center, I can tell you that MOST have only 8-10 times per month to exercise.

 

That means you can forget the 6-day per week bodybuilding Joe Meathead approach to training. Your schedule simply does not allow for it. It also means that you need a programming that can be done in a short amount of time a few times a week that will still produce results. Results in terms of maintained or improved health and quality of life.

 

At FitWorkz we offer functional training that fits bill. This type of training 2-3 times per week gets the job done. In the field results from members and clients proves it. But what if you can’t get to the gym regularly because of work or family commitments?

 

Enter the simple life, minimalist approach to exercise and training and exercise that you can do at home.

 

You need a few pieces of equipment. Check out craigslist, eBay, Facebook market place, varage sale… you get the idea. All you need are a few dumbbells or even one barbell with a few plates. You are not looking for an entire gym. Look for deals! There are plenty of people looking to sell equipment for cheap and some happy to let you have it as long as you come pick it up.

Pullup (do them off the rafters, a beam,

Dumbbell Goblet Squat

Dumbbell Squat Press

Dumbbell Incline Row

Dumbbell Deadlift

Dumbbell Hang Clean

Med Ball Slam

Dumbbell Heavy Carry

Plank to Pushup Position

Rest 30 Seconds

 

Do six rounds or giant sets or circuits or whatever vernacular is the norm where you are.

 

First Round

6 Reps

Second Round

5 Reps

Third Round

4 Reps

Fourth Round

3 Reps

Fifth Round

2 Reps

Sixth Round

1 Rep

 

This will take all of 20-30 minutes. If not less!
