“This is it! I need this. I want this just as much as I want to breathe.”

Amanda Cha“This is it! I need this. I want this just as much as I want to breathe.” – Amanda Cha

Growing up I was different from most.   Behind my smile I suffered mentally, physically, emotionally and it continued throughout my childhood years and into adulthood.  I lived that unhealthy lifestyle for a long while where drinking alcohol became the solution to all my issues and depression.  It did not take long for my health to start deteriorating.

“This is it! I need this. I want this just as much as I want to breathe.”

I told myself, “I will live for my son.  I will walk his every steps with him in life, and be at his sports games. I will do what I can for him using every breath I take.”

The first part of my positive change happened when I met some individuals from a nutrition company named Yourhealth.   They were the first ones to mentally and emotionally support me.  I was given some of the Yourhealth supplements and felt better.  After years of struggling and not feeling well I felt great; mental clarity, energy… it  was unexplainable!

I sold some of my personal possessions and bought Yourhealth products and joined one of their 8-week challenges.  The challenge gave me reason to start committing to the gym.  I would go to the gym at night and work hard.  I would think about all my hardships, the struggles and about my son; my reason to live and breathe.

At the end of the challenge, I submitted my essay and progress pictures.  I won 2nd place.   Fast forward to this year.  My improvements fueled changes in all areas of my life.  I completed college and more.  In April of 2019 I got a virus and was bed ridden. I had no strength, lost my voice, couldn’t eat and it even hurt to breathe.

Lying in bed I finally said to myself…”Get up. You can do it.  Do it for yourself.  No one is going to be here to take care of you so get up and just go to the gym!  Chase your dreams!  You got this.”    Up out of bed and to the gym I went.

How I do it:

Supplements

I take  Yorhealth vitamins, digestives, probiotics, fibers, super greens, meal replacement shakes and muscle repair supplements.

Food

I eat organic foods that include rice cakes, albacore tuna, asparagus, avocados, red potatoes, red meat, white meat.

Workouts

I try to go to the gym 5 days per week, right after work.  Cardio on the treadmill for 30-60 minutes.  I walk at 3 mph at an incline of 15.

Feeling strong, being strong and looking strong has been a big positive change for me.  I never knew how amazing it feels to wake up the next day just being ready to start my day and get going.

Taking care of my health has changed me for the better.  It has boosted my confidence more than ever before.  This summer I finally got to flaunt myself in a two-piece bikini.  This was for the first time ever.  I was kind of nervous and reminded myself, “I worked hard for it and deserve to look pretty and feel beautiful in my own skin.”

Most importantly I am healthy for my son.   I will be here for him.  He will have his mom at his special events and games.

Mom Loses 80 Pounds and Becomes Role Model for Her Kids

A Life-Changing Health Care

Shortly after my first son was born, in 2015, I experienced a life-changing health scare.  I had a very invasive surgery to remove a grapefruit-sized tumor that was found in my chest, setting on top of my right lung. The recovery process left me with intense nerve pain, nerve damage, muscle damage, and months of physical therapy.  I gained a substantial amount of weight and found myself becoming depressed and tired.

Coping with STRESS with Excessive Overindulgence

About 6 months after surgery I tried to start a fitness routine, thinking I could just jump right back in. I couldn’t. I failed; disappointed in myself, I had a negative shift in mindset. I adopted a “you only live once” mentality when it came to food and fitness. As in, “you only live once, why not eat pizza whenever I want…or have a pint of ice cream for dinner…why waste time on working out” I was coping with the depression and stress by excessive overindulgence. I was in a very difficult season mentally and physically, and I felt very alone.

I Realized I was Convincing myself I was too Busy to Care for those Most Important in My Life

My husband and I had our second son in 2017. I was about 6 months postpartum, and still weighing in over 200 lbs (at a modest 5’6”), when something just clicked.  I was always tired, moody, depressed…a shell of my former fun-loving self.  And one day I heard myself saying to my mom during a phone conversation “I just don’t have time to workout…”  I had said that before, but this time I actually heard what I was saying.  It was an excuse; just me trying to convince myself that I was “too busy” to get healthy.  Too busy to take care of the person in charge of taking care of the two most important people in my life???  That was it.  I didn’t want my boys to grow up seeing their mother like that, I couldn’t. I needed to get healthier, I needed to be more present…I needed to be better, the best me, for them!

Time for a Change

I always enjoyed weight-training, and I love to cook (and eat!).  So, I started working out and meal /planning/prepping. I was lifting heavy, pushing my workouts hard. But I new that that was only going to take me so far. To see real change, I would have to MAKE a real change.

My Plan

I started to research all the “clean eating” theories, educating myself on macronutrients & micronutrients, IIFYM, etc. I got my Group Fitness Instructor Certification with the American Council on Exercise and started teaching fitness classes; all the while taking in as much information and literature as possible on nutrition as it relates to fitness, and healthier living. Not only for myself, but for my family as well.

I Have LOST Over 80 Pounds!

Since then I’ve lost over 80 lbs (95 of you count my stage weight) and I have never looked back.  2019 was my first competition season, and I LOVED IT!  I love the prep, the challenge of pushing myself to the extreme both mentally and physically.  I’ve never been one to have a desire to be on stage, but the bodybuilding arena…that felt like home to me!

Life Changing

I can say without a doubt that this past year has absolutely changed my life. Not only have I grown stronger physically, but mentally AND emotionally, too. I’ve opened a small fitness center in my community (we are a small town of about 1500 people) in efforts to bring more awareness and opportunity for activity and exercise. I’ve held workshops on clean eating and nutrition, and hope to offer meal prep workshops in the future.

Positive Role Model for my Kids

My family has benefited as well. It makes my heart beam when my four-year old tells me, “Mama, apples are carbohydrates. They give you energy.” Knowing my kids will grow up with a healthy relationship with food and fitness, that is the ultimate mom win!

Maryline Paradis from Gaining 50 Pounds to Becoming Confident Role Model

I GAINED 50 Pounds!

Maryline Paradis Confident Role Model

It was in 2014 that I became a mom for the first time and gained 50 pounds. Pregnancy was a perfect excuse to eat everything I wanted, and I did. Post pregnancy I spent six months losing the weight. Then pregnancy number two and after that pregnancy number three. I had all three of my children close together and had a body full of stretch marks.

After giving birth the third time, I made myself a priority. Ashamed to look in the mirror and wanting to be a role model for my kids, it was time for a change.

The life of a mother of three young children is busy. Thoughts of giving up were a regular occurrence. My spouse is an entrepreneur and on a busy schedule. Making to train with children is challenging.

Hard Work and Disciple Make it Happen
Many times, I was tired and had to remind myself to push my limits. Working through the challenges of kids and time constraints gave me a sense of accomplishment and pride. There were plateaus where nothing was moving, my weight stayed frozen on the scales. Discipline over time allowed me to break the plateaus and make progress.

The Challenge of Stepping on Stage to SMASH Plateaus
In June I had my biggest weight plateau. Progress all but stopped. My soft stomach was still here. I was frustrated. It was time for motivation and to challenge myself. I had seen some women that had competed in fitness contest. I set my eyes on a contest in April.

The upcoming competition is keeping me motivated. In April I will step on stage in a swimsuit and heels with a big smile on my face knowing “I did it!”

My family and friends were encouraging. Through discipline and hard work, I just kept going. If there is a secret this is it, you just have to keep going.

Role Model with More Self-Confidence
I chose myself and regained my body. I am now a role model for my children. Today I have more self-confidence and know I can accomplish a lot.

I am often asked how I find the time. There is no finding time, I have to choose to make the time.

Today I know I can succeed and even in the face of difficulties in all areas of my life.

My Breaking Point

My breaking point was realizing my family’s health history was something that had caused several members of my family to pass away. My family’s health history is plagued with high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attacks, strokes and more.  If I did not change anything concerning my health, I could be next.

Overcoming Life’s Obstacles

There were obstacles of course, which included: self-doubt, feeling like I tried to get healthy before only to fail, and having a busy schedule. Things that I thought were hard, were really excuses I made up.  The excuses I made were the cause of my past failures with my health.  Slowly over time, I began to rid myself of the excuses.

My Biggest Struggle

Accepting that it took years of me making poor choices to be in the state that I was and that there would be no quick results was my biggest struggle. Taking notes from past failures, I begin to research and find ways to assist me in reaching my goals. This time I invested in myself and researched ways to do things better than I had before. I worked out for a while with resistance training and I also worked with a registered dietician. I still work with a registered dietician and follow a vegetarian diet now.

Time in the Gym

I love weight training/resistance training and mix of different styles of cardio.

Life is BETTER

Being stronger now, has made my life better on so many levels. My self-esteem and confidence have improved. My overall perspective on my health status and what it means to be healthy has changed. I am able to let others know my story and how fitness changed my life. I am able to help my family make better health decisions as well.

From being a body transformation contestant to becoming a professional figure athlete with OCB. All of the changes I have made have inspired me to want to help others around me. This lifestyle change has led me to become a certified personal trainer, fitness nutrition specialist, launch my own online fitness business, Temple Fitness, LLC and currently working on my nutrition coaching certification to better serve others.

Good Bye 50 Pounds FOREVER! Jerry Gray

We vacationed at Disney every year.  We would not visit the water parks even though my daughter asked every trip.  Three months out from the 2007 trip she asked to go to the water parks.   After committing to go I walked into the bathroom and looked in the mirror and knew I had to do something. This was the start of my weight loss journey.

I purchased a Total Gym and used it every day along with running.  I put myself on a stringent diet.   I really had no idea how to do it right but knew I had to do it.   The the trip came I was down 50 pounds.   Unfortunately, in time I gained the 50 pounds back.

After the 2007 vacation…. I said, " I'm going to be ripped when we go on vacation this year" and every year while standing on the deck of the ship or standing on the beach with a shirt on I never made it happen.  I would workout in spurts usually from January 1st till about August.  Then I would fall apart for a few weeks then decide I would start back up after the Holidays.  Unfortunately, in time I gained the 50 pounds back.

The END to the Weight Gain Merry Go Round

On October 28, 2018 I was at work and feeling down about my weight and decided it was time.  I got home from work and wrote the date and my weight on my mirror.  This time I tried something new, tracking my macros.  I downloaded a tracking app and started tracking everything I put in my body.  After a month I could see results like never before.  This lit a fire in me to see what I could accomplish.

I worked out every day for the next year.  My daughter was working out as well and decided to do an OCB bikini competition.  She did well and she decided to do another show 3 weeks out.  She asked me to do the show with her and initially I declined.

After a lot of encouraging words, I decided to do join my daughter in the contest. We signed up and booked the tan, polygraph and classes.  No turning back.  I turned up the cardio and locked down the diet and beat myself up every day for 3 weeks.  Show day had come very quickly and I was in the best shape of my life.  At the show I placed 1st in debut,1st in the 40+masters and also placed 1st in the overall.  I had earned 2 Pro cards and swept all 3 classes.  This was worth every rep, every mile and every sacrificed calorie I put in for the last year.

I am on a steady diet and maintaining my current weight and work out daily.  My contest weight is within striking distance.  I plan on a big Pro schedule this year and hope to inspire more 40+ men and women to get out and do the same.

The BIG Turning Point

I worked out for years but never really saw great results until I started tracking macros.  My advice to anyone struggling with losing weight is to start tracking everything.  If you’re going to do it, do it right.  The only person you cheat is yourself.

I have been on both sides.  I know how it feels to struggle with weight.  Once you truly commit and cut off any other options you will be amazed at what you are capable of.  I am not a professional nor do I have any certifications but if I have results.  If you need any help or have questions, please feel free to reach out to me in social media.

“If you’re not tracking your slacking".

At 32 Conquering a Life Long Struggle

Krystal Wall

“I took the walk of shame and realized that I was letting life pass me by.”

I think the exact moment that I knew I didn’t want to live this way anymore came at an amusement park. My husband and I took our children for their first time and we were all so excited. We got on the first ride, I was holding my breath, and I was just barely able to snap the bar in place. However, the attendants came by and said the green light was not turning on, indicating it was fully latched. They began pressing it down, trying to force it closed, and I just wanted the earth to open up and swallow me whole.

After about 5 minutes, they said I would need to get off. They had to make an announcement to everyone since to open one meant they had to open them all. The worst part was my daughter, who was 7, started crying because now she had to ride her first amusement park ride alone and she was scared. I took the walk of shame past everyone and realized that I was letting my life pass me by while I sat on the sidelines. I love my children more than life itself, but I was letting food have greater importance than my future with them.

Breaking the Chains of Sugar Addiction and Emotional Eating

I think the biggest thing for me was breaking the chains of sugar addiction and emotional eating. I did not realize that I was such an emotional eater before because I was suppressing those emotions with food before they fully reached the surface. Now, I have had to learn new coping mechanisms for stress, frustration, anxiety, depression, etc.

At 32 Conquering a Life Long Struggle

I am 32 and I remember trying to lose weight when I was 8, so this has been a lifelong struggle. I used to say I would wake up on a diet and go to bed as a failure. I think the difference this time is twofold.

One, I found a method that actually addressed the sugar addiction and helped me to end those cravings.

Two, I discovered a love for exercise and physical activity that I’ve never had before.

I am following the keto way of eating, so I have 20g or less of carbs each day, moderate protein, and moderate to high fat. I also intermittent fast daily and do some extended fasting as well.

“If I say I’m going to do something, I do it.”

The biggest change I have made in my life is following through on the promises I make to myself. If I say I’m going to do something, I do it.I decided when I started keto in December 2018 that I would not lie to myself or give up on myself ever again. If I say I’m going to go workout at 5AM the next day, I am in the gym at 5:01.

This has carried through to other aspects of my life and really helped me to become more disciplined overall. I have much more confidence in myself now and that has shown itself in many ways. I decided to finish my degree and have two semesters left of that.

I am a musician, but felt embarrassed to be onstage. Now, I regularly sing in my church and feel comfortable being in front of people.  My family is planning our trip back to the same amusement park in a couple months and I can’t wait to ride every single ride there! It’s been such a blessing, and I am thankful for every moment.

Overcoming Obstacles on the Way to Losing Over 50 Pounds

2014 My Breaking Point

My weight was at its highest (notwithstanding two back to back pregnancies). I was diagnosed with a pre-cancerous colon polyp.  My youngest daughter was granted a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and I did not want to be photographed overweight and out of shape.

I decided to get serious at the gym.   I worked with a trainer and nutritionist.  I was put on a structured meal plan and had to learn a whole new way of life.

Failing is Part of the Process

I tried and failed SO many times, I lost count.  I lost faith in my ability to gain control over my weight.  This changed when I started working with a trainer and nutritionist.  I learned important (yet simple) tactics for achieving success.

Overcoming Obstacles

The biggest obstacle was learning to eat.  I had already tried every fad diet out there, including starving myself. I was never successful.  Eating 6 times a day was foreign to me!   There was no way I could eat that much, and lose weight.  I cried the first week and struggled to eat 6 times per day.  I kept at it.  The more consistent I was with nutrition the more the weight seemed to just drop off.  It was working.

My Plan

I lifted weights 3-4 times a week, performed cardio 3 times a week.  My workouts are intense using a progressive overload approach to training.   Fad diets are behind me.  I follow a very structured and balanced nutrition plan that included nutrient-dense foods.

(Need a Plan of Your Own)

A Role Model Helping Others Reach their Goals

Becoming healthy has done amazing things for me.  My esteem and confidence in general have improved. I am a role model for my teenage daughters.  After losing over 50 pounds and I reached my ideal weight.  Next I had the confidence to step on stage in 4 amateur bodybuilding competitions and earned the chance to compete nationally.   Today I have a sports nutrition consultant certification and share my experience and knowledge with others!

I Lost 80 Pounds and My Confidence is Soaring

Time for Change

My breaking point was being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 5 years ago.My liver and kidneys were failing.  If I did not change my bad habits I would need mediation and dialysis. I made a deal with my doctor to give me some time to change my life around.  I didn’t want to go on any medications or dialysis at 25.

Obstacles

I quit smoking cold turkey and drastically changed my eating habits while fighting cravings.  My blood sugar was checked all the time and learned to meal plan. It was frustrating, I was way out of my comfort zone. There were times I felt completely sick.   My body was detoxing the chemicals I was putting in it for so many years.

I have triedMANY different dietsand exercise programs. Some worked, some didn’t. It’s constant work. I learned what worked for me and when to change something in my diet or workouts. I did research and trial and error.

My Plan for Change

For exercises I did 2 hours of cardio 6 days a week on the treadmill, elliptical, stair master, along with high knees, jumping jacks, and football drills. For weights the Push, Pull, Leg and leg day. I changed my workouts every 3-4 weeks.  I increased my weights weekly.

The 80 Pounds Lighter More Confident Me

Being stronger has made my life better.  I will be around for my kids.  I feel I have purpose. I have found something that I am confident and great at.  It gave me my new career path ( Personal Trainer).

I have confidence in myself that I never had before.  My kids have seen how hard I’ve worked to get healthy.  They have watched me train and not give up.  I have met some amazing people in the process.

I have lost is 80lbs.  I am proud of all that I’ve accomplished and the person I am today.
